Six months have passed since Edrik's last confrontation with the Empire of Will, and the group has remained surprisingly quiet. With their enemies lying low, he and his companions have become Dean Frost's extended house guests.

Yet all is not well for them. Cia has grown frustrated with the slow progress of her wayfinder training, and has begun to doubt herself. Her sister Saph is beginning to worry that she has spent too long away from the Outlands. Lutia, meanwhile, is finding it difficult to separate herself from the Infernal she has trapped. And Husk and Zermaskr are growing restless with their long inaction. All the while, Realms are continuing to collapse at an alarming rate, seemingly without cause or explanation.
